Rose Lee from Quirindi

Leonie McGregor emailed us:

Hi,

My Great Great Grandmother was Rose Lee from Quirindi. It is my understanding from mum that she was the first woman to have her own radio program in NSW.

Do you happen to have any information at all that would help me learn more about her?

Thanks
Leonie McGregor

If you can help Leonie you can leave a message here, or email her.

  1. Rose Lee Park is approximately opposite the junction of Fitzroy Street and the Kamilaroi Highway in the south part of Quirindi where the Highway turns up the hill towards Gunnedah.
In said park is a information sign.
From memory it says that Rose Lee was a prominent benefactor of the community – doing many beneficial projects.
Amongst them was the Womens Radio Club which communicated with other radio clubs.
I have been able to find online mention of the 2TM Tamworth Womens Radio Club but have not got any further with my research.
What I would like to do – if the history suggests that there was any kind of transmitting radio station in Quirindi – would be establish a replica at the Quirindi Rural Heritage Village.
I have been advised to contact the Quirindi & District Historical Society – but have not done so yet.
I have only recently moved to the area and joined the heritage village.

I have tried to contact Leonie McGregor but cannot get the email to work. Can anyone help me please.
