New community radio station goes live on Oamaru airwaves
A new radio station in Oamaru is committed to the community, says Generation FM’s Elbert Gargar.
Yesterday, the station launched its live broadcast from South Hill.
Radio DJ and Mr Gargar’s wife Flora is no stranger to the airwaves, having been a DJ in the Philippines before emigrating to New Zealand.
The board of trustees of Generation FM, Samuel Gutierez and Mr Gargar, got the nod on April 9 that the station would be granted charity status.
Mr Gargar said he is experienced when it comes to setting up a basic studio and Mr Gutierez had been involved with radio competitions in the Philippines.
He hopes locals will tune in to the radio station.
“Apart from playing your favourite songs, the station is committed also in casting timely news, information and discuss leading issues as well that shape up the Waitaki District,” he said.
As well as broadcasting live on 106.7 FM, it is also streaming online at .
