Fusion FM Finds Fame
New FM station for region’s young people
Horowhenua youth are getting their own radio station this week with the launch of Fusion FM.
The station joins the long list of services offered at Te Takere in Levin, including a library, community centre, meeting rooms, i-Site and travel agency.
Fusion, broadcasting on 106.9FM, will launch on Wednesday at an event featuring hip hop group Smashproof.
Te Takere youth co-ordinator Ramon Oza said the youth team was excited about the project and looking forward to a big launch with the Auckland trio.
Fusion FM is already broadcasting within a 5-kilometre radius of Te Takere and is also available online.
“The music selection is limited while we are in test mode and we are asking our youth to supply new content that they want to hear,” Mr Oza said.
The radio station will share Te Takere’s existing recording studio.
“It’s an opportunity for young people to develop DJing skills,” Mr Oza said. “We have had the offer of training from Coast Access Radio in Waikanae and Dave Key from More FM is also going to help.”
Te Takere’s digital services co-ordinator Mike While has developed a free Youth Space app for Android and Apple users.
The app will keep users informed of Te Takere Youth Space events and includes a Fusion FM radio player that allows the user to listen to the radio station.
Wednesday’s launch concert runs from 4pm until 6pm at Memorial Hall in Levin, followed by a VIP meet and great at Levin’s Youth Space from 7pm.
