This week Community Radio Hamilton changed to FreeFM and began broadcasting on the 89FM frequency.

The frequency holds a special place in Hamilton radio history, having been through many incarnations since it was first used by university radio station Contact 89FM in 1986.

Prior to that, Radio Contact – along with pretty much every other radio station in New Zealand – broadcast on AM only.

For people aged under 40, an LP is something that holds music and the poster on the wall is of The Doors.

They were a band.
