Virtual Archive Project: People & Programs
When people talk about radio, they often mention a particular personality or program that they like or dislike or have memories of from childhood. People and their programs are what makes all the technology come alive, and drives much of what we know and understand about radio in our daily lives.
The Virtual Archive Project and Oral History Project feature many thousands of names of people who’ve been involved with radio around the Pacific. Many thousands, and more. For genealogists, a treasure trove and more importantly for everyone, a place where names can be remembered and both quiet and momentous achievements celebrated. Enter the name you want in our search area and you may be surprised by what you find. (Coming in 2005)
Check out our Top 100 Pacific Radio People.
This is our list of people who we think represent the faces and voices of broadcasting across the past century. It covers personalities, announcers, DJ’s, innovators, scientists, engineers, programmers, technicians, radio amateurs, wartime operators, managers, listeners, designers, advertisers, entrepreneurs and ranges from the famous to the infamous to the complete unknowns and ordinary people who’ve been touched by radio or influenced it in return.
It’s a completely subjective list, with people from places like China, Japan, California, Peru, Mexico, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Samoa, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Singapore and more. It covers all forms of radio from AM to FM to Marine to Aviation to Internet and more. (Coming in 2005).
And here’s the fun part, it’s also your list and we have a contest to collect the names of the Top 100 Pacific Radio People.
Watch this site for more information about how and when you can tell us whom you think should make the Top 100. Start thinking now and prepare 100 words or less telling us why this person is so special and which Pacific country they come from.
We’ll have the list sponsored by a Radio Heritage Partner and rewards for some of you who contribute names during the official contest period.
As well as people, radio is also known for its programs, especially on AM, FM and short wave. You’ll find information and even some sound bites from many hundreds of programs here, some very familiar, and others perhaps unknown. Enter the name you want in our search area and you may be surprised by what you find.
